3 Better Ways to Do Business Better By Mobile

These days you can run your small business almost entirely by mobile. There’s an app for just about everything from taking notes to communicating with customers, not to mention managing expenses and controlling costs in real time.

In fact, Manta’s 2015 Small Business Wellness Index found that 81 percent of small business owners use their mobile devices every day, some as often as every hour. More than half of business owners use mobile devices to communicate with customers, and 30 percent take notes or create to-do lists on their devices. Mobile financial management is also on the rise. Today 24 percent of small business owners bank by mobile and 14 percent accept mobile payments.

Here’s a quick look at some of the popular apps you can use to simplify key business tasks.

1. Take notes and create to-do lists.
If you haven’t already ditched the legal pad, now’s the time. Evernote, a cloud-based platform for organizing notes, lets you save all your important information in one place. You can use it to create a project checklist, draft a plan, or jot down a list. Or, you can upload and store images, documents, web pages, or hyperlinks.
You can tag your notes by subject, sort them into notebooks, and share and sync them with your team. Once you’ve created a note, it’s instantly available on all your devices. Plus notes are searchable, so it’s easy to find what you need.

2. Communicate with customers.
Mobile customer relationship management is a must for business owners on the go. With Insightly you can efficiently manage leads, contacts, partners, and vendors from any device. You can also create and monitor project milestones, get automatic email reminders, and track email correspondence.

Insightly integrates with a number of popular apps to simplify customer communications. You can write and send emails directly from Insightly, import or export contacts to any of your MailChimp lists, or use the Insightly App for Outlook 2013 to improve productivity.  Plus, it’s compatible with Evernote and Quicken Online.

3. Manage business expenses.
QuickBooks has long been popular with small business owners, and after a few hiccups, the cloud-based version, QuickBooks Online, has achieved equal success. Today QuickBooks Online includes a mobile app you can use to view daily bank feeds, send invoices, and process payments. Or, you can login through your mobile browser and use the full version.

If you travel often, you’ll also want to look into mobile apps that let you scan your receipts and store them in the cloud until you’re ready to file an expense report or prepare taxes. Expensify is one of the best options in this category. Not only does it integrate with QuickBooks Online and your credit card accounts, but you can also set it up to sync with prepaid expense cards. For business owners, prepaid cards provide a quick and easy way to fund, limit, and monitor employee spending.
