Under the direct supervision of the AVP Web Operations and Infrastructure, the Systems Engineer has the responsibility of creating and managing technology infrastructure to support the growth of the computing environment. This role calls for a well-rounded IT professional with a strong ability to solve technical issues and understand complex software relationships with the systems they work on.
Promote availability and stability in a 24/7 High Availability environment
Analyze performance of the environment and recommend improvements where needed
Profiling performance and capacity planning of critical systems
Perform security scans and contribute to stakeholders responsible for security and risk assessments
Participate in an on-call rotation with the rest of the WebOps team for off hours support.
Respond to alerts and quickly triage problems and work with the team to resolve issues.
Design and implementation of projects and improvements
Ability to prioritize your own work and recognise items that need to be worked on.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Positive, pro-active approach to systems and people
A healthy obsession with collecting and graphing data
5+ Years Windows Active Directory experience
3+ Years of experience with Cisco switching and firewalls.
3+ Years VMWare vCenter / ESX
3+ Years scripting, bash, PowerShell or others
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems
Expert knowledge of IIS Web server, good knowledge of apache web server
Ability to work with Linux at more than a basic level. Install packages, use vi, basic troubleshooting, basic shell scripts.
Experience implementing and using DAS storage and iSCSI
Experience with SQL server. Installing, patching and how web servers connect to the SQL
Good knowledge of Microsoft licensing
Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience (Raid, Memory, CPU, Hard Drives, Video, etc…)
Ability to research software / networking issues as required
Web site delivery and troubleshooting end to end
Experience supporting user VPN connections
Windows File security, permissions and auditing
Advanced DNS Administration and troubleshooting *public DNS is a plus
Windows system patching (WSUS)
Working knowledge of network hardware, protocols, and standards, including TCP/IP, firewalls, and routing
Experience implementing monitoring and using custom and deep level monitors used for alerting (Zabbix preferred)
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow process for compliance
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Payments environment experience
Certifications in: Microsoft, ITIL, Linux or VMWare
SIEM Logging or real time event correlation and alerting
Zabbix Monitoring (or something similar)
Competence in Cisco ASA and switching
Single-sign on projects, IAM etc..
Confluence / ZenDesk
PagerDuty - on call rotation
